Blackjack Training

By Kevin Stith

Blackjack is one of the most popular games played in casinos. Blackjack is also known as "twenty one" or "pontoon." The game is a mix of chance and skills coupled with decision-making. The game has evolved over a period of time. Players have specialized in certain skills like "card counting," with which they turn the odds of the game in their favor. The game has been in existence since the 1700s. References can be found in historical scriptures to a game known as "vingt-et-un," which means twenty one in French, and is considered the precursor to blackjack.

The game was initially not so popular in the US. This led to the gambling houses trying various things like offering bonus in case of a 10-to-1 payout, if the player had an ace of spades and a black jack. The jack could be either the jack of clubs or jack of spades. Once the game got popular, the bonus payout soon disappeared from the rules.

Any player with more blackjack hands or points is the winner of a game. Any hand which reaches 21 is considered a winner. The total should not exceed that of 21, in which case the hand is said to be "bust." The aim of each player is go beat the dealer. If both the player and the dealer have the same score, it is called "push," with neither the player nor the dealer winning the hand.

With the increasing popularity of the game in casinos, one can also find many variations of the game. The rules are more or less similar with minor changes here and there. One has to play the game regularly to get acquainted with the intricacies of the game. On the Internet, there are numerous online blackjack resources, which can help to get better at playing the game. One can find valuable tips from experts on these online resources.
